Each with eligibility remaining, three Georgia Tech players have decided to complete their football-playing careers. Defensive tackle T.K. Chimedza, tight end PeJe Harris and offensive lineman Pierce Quick confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that they have moved on from playing football at Tech or elsewhere.

Quick, who started eight games for the Jackets last season at left guard after transferring from Alabama, figures to be the most significant on-field loss. Quick was in position to stay in the starting lineup with his remaining two seasons of eligibility but injuries led him to decide to retire. Quick has transferred back to Alabama, where his path to a degree was quicker than at Tech, and is on track to graduate this spring. Mississippi State has its first tight end and a new volleyball player to boot. Georgia tight end Ryland Goede committed to transfer to MSU on Monday, and he'll bring his fiancée - volleyball player Alexa Fortin - to Starkville as well. Goede did not record any statistics during the 2022 season on a national champion Georgia team featuring a pair of standout tight ends in Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington. The fourth-year junior played in 13 games in 2019 and 2021, missing the 2020 season while recovering from shoulder surgery. The Kennesaw, Georgia, product is a former four-star recruit. - The Dispatch

From birth, Haynes King has lived a life revolving around football. Growing up the son of a high-school football coach in Texas, King was a ballboy for the Longview High Lobos "as soon as he was old enough to protect himself on the sideline," Haynes' father John said. As a young boy and later a star quarterback in Longview, an east Texas city of about 82,000 roughly 40 miles from the Louisiana border, he spent many an hour in the Lobo Den, the school's fieldhouse. "He's just a guy that leads by example," John King said of his son in a phone interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Not a big rah-rah guy. Hard worker, great teammate. Enjoys the locker room, the coaches office. He just kind of grew up a coach's kid and that's what he likes to do. It doesn't take much to make him happy. He's just kind of one of the guys." That approach will surely find itself welcome within the confines of the Georgia Tech locker room.

After three years at Texas A&M, King seeks a new start at Tech and a fair shot at playing time -- and has three remaining seasons of eligibility. "That's all he wants," John King said. "He just wants a chance to win a job and play college football, be a starter." At Texas A&M, King was a heralded recruit - he was ranked the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class by 247Sports Composite - who twice won the Aggies' starting job (2021 and 2022) coming out of the preseason. He was recognized by the team with awards for his toughness, attitude and conditioning level and earned the praise of coach Jimbo Fisher. Nebraska's push into the transfer portal isn't over yet. The Huskers are hosting former Georgia tight end Brett Seither this weekend, a source confirmed to The World-Herald. The 6-foot-5, 228-pounder arrives on the heels of winning a national championship with the Bulldogs days ago in Los Angeles. NU has already added nine transfers since coach Matt Rhule arrived in late November and now will look to shore up a tight end position full of unproven youth. Seither has appeared in 27 career games, making a total of three catches for 51 yards and a touchdown across four seasons. He would have two years of remaining eligibility. Georgia, of course, will have star Brock Bowers for another year coming off an award-winning campaign as the nation's top tight end. Former Georgia Tech wide receiver E.J. Jenkins has been performing before NFL scouts this week at the Hula Bowl, one of five former Yellow Jackets players who has been chosen to take part in a pre-draft all-star game. The Hula Bowl will be played at noon Saturday in Orlando and televised on CBS Sports Network. Jenkins caught 17 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns this past season, his lone season with the Jackets after transferring from South Carolina.

A year ago, former Tech safety Tariq Carpenter parlayed an impressive week of practice at the Hula Bowl into an invitation to the higher-profile Senior Bowl, where he improved his draft standing and ultimately was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round. The four other former Jackets who have been selected to compete in a postseason showcase game are wide receiver Malachi Carter and linebacker Ayinde Eley (NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Jan. 28 in Pasadena, Calif.), linebacker Charlie Thomas (East-West Shrine Bowl, Feb. 2 in Las Vegas) and defensive end Keion White (Senior Bowl, Feb. 4 in Mobile, Ala.). Christian Leary, a wide receiver who spent the past two seasons at Alabama, announced Sunday that he is transferring to Georgia Tech. It is a change of direction for Leary, who entered the NCAA transfer portal in December and announced Dec. 13 that he was transferring to Central Florida. Leary made the announcement Sunday on Instagram. He did not reveal the reason for the switch.

Instead of becoming the third former Alabama player to join Gus Malzahn at UCF, Leary will instead join a Georgia Tech program led by former Tide offensive line coach Brent Key. Leary, who is from Orlando, was a four-star recruit in Alabama's 2021 class ranked No. 75 nationally in 247 Sports' rankings. He switched to running back during his freshman season when injuries struck that position before returning to wide receiver in 2022. He caught one pass for 6 yards this season while appearing mostly on special teams. - Birmingham News

Georgia Tech added its eighth player from the transfer portal when Abdul Janneh, a wide receiver from Duquesne, announced his transfer decision Saturday. Janneh, 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, played in all 11 games for the Dukes this season a sophomore. He caught 43 passes for 579 yards and nine touchdowns. He played in five games in 2021 and four games in 2020. Duquesne is an FCS school that plays in the Northeast Football Conference. Georgia Tech running back Dontae Smith will be back to use his extra season of eligibility. Smith, who set a career high with 420 rushing yards this season, made his announcement Thursday from his Twitter account. He made the proclamation in a manner fitting for this new age in college sports, writing "1 last ride" while also posting a link to his online merchandise shop. Smith's return provides needed experience for an offense that has lost or stands to lose several key offensive skill players either to graduation or the transfer portal, including quarterback Jeff Sims, wide receivers Nate McCollum and Malachi Carter and running back Hassan Hall. Depending on what Tech does in procuring running backs out of the transfer portal, Smith is positioned to have a major role in the 2023 season. Alabama wide receiver Christian Leary has chosen Central Florida as his new school after entering the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month. Leary, an Orlando native, will return home and play for Gus Malzahn, who led UCF to a 9-4 record and Military Bowl appearance this season. Leary becomes the second Alabama wide receiver to transfer to UCF since the end of the 2021 season. Javon Baker transferred this past summer after two seasons with Alabama, and led the Knights with 747 yards on 54 catches this season.

Leary was one of four Alabama wide receivers who have entered the transfer portal in the past three weeks, joining fellow sophomore JoJo Earle, junior Traeshon Holden and freshman Aaron Anderson. Holden announced his transfer Sunday to Oregon. Appearing in 10 games this season mostly on special teams, Leary caught one pass for six yards. He appeared in eight games as a freshman in 2021, converting to running back midseason when injuries struck that position. - Birmingham News
